Japan - Day 1
Today, after months of waiting, our trip to Japan was finally underway.
Since our flight wasn't until the afternoon we enjoyed a fairly relaxing morning at home. At least we did, until Shanon went to do the dishes and water started pouring out of the cupboard under the sink. In a ridiculous display of bad timing the plumbing had decided to misbehave. After a clean-up operation Shanon used his home-handyman superpowers to temporarily fix the problem and get the dishes done.
On the way to the cattery we had a plumbing problem of a different nature. This time it was our cat which sprung a leak. I had Jessie in her cage on my knee as she's quieter and calmer there. With experience comes wisdom, and I am now very aware as to why that was a very unwise thing to do. She soiled herself rather excessively during the trip, and let me tell you, it is a disgusting event to have taking place on your lap. I can not even begin to tell you how embarassed we were when we arrived at the cattery with a very dirty and smelly cat.
We got to the airport extremely early, so that Sera, who dropped us off, could avoid the traffic. We spent a few hours eating, shopping, and watching planes come and go while we waited for our flight, but not before I noticed that my fly was down. Honestly, you really can't take me anywhere!
Our flight to rainy and very cold Christchurch went well and we spent the night in the Sudima hotel relaxing in our wonderfully comfortable bed and listening to the torrential rain falling outside.
