Japan - Day 7
Today we were up bright and early in order to catch our train to Tokyo. Train travel in Japan is extremely pleasant and the 4 hour journey was a breeze. Unfortunately the sunny day gave way to clouds and rain as we headed north, and we missed out on a view of Mt Fuji.
Arriving at Tokyo Station was chaotic, and after wandering aimlessly for a while I think it was a fluke that we managed to get to the correct subway station fairly quickly. A few minutes on the subway, and a few minutes walk in the chilly weather later and we were at our home for the next 4 nights, Hotel Kitcho. We were very pleased with the nice neighbourhood, and the handy location. But given the depressing weather we decided to spend the afternoon inside.
The hotel had a washer and dryer so we jumped on the chance to do some washing as by this stage we'd pretty much run out of clean clothes. The hotel also had a pillow room, where you could go and select from a variety of pillows if the one in your room was not to your liking. There were only two pillows there when we went, but it was still a neat idea and one of those pillows happened to be perfect for me anyway. The hotel also has a small library where you can get books or videos to watch in your room. It's a pity all the videos were in Japanese!
The toilet in our room was a let-down. After being treated to toilets with buttons on the side which shot warm water back up at you (with adjustable water pressure), and in one case a heated toilet seat, a normal run-of-the-mill toilet is quite the disappointment! When I was last in Japan my host family had a toilet roll holder which played music when you used it. Sadly none of the toilet roll holders we've come across so far have been that cool.
After dark we dressed up warm and went for a long walk, followed by dinner. No Lotteria in this neighbourhood unfortunately, so no chocolate balls for us today!
