From Germany to Poland

The rest of our time in Germany was great, but went by way too fast. On Saturday night we enjoyed a dinner of asparagus and potatoes and many hours of great conversation with Flo, Eva, and 2 Finnish girls who were also staying at the flat. Yesterday morning the Mainz marathon took place and the route took the runners almost right past Flo & Eva's. So we watched on TV until the leader was almost going by and then we rushed out to watch the first few runners. Chances are we made it onto German television. Fortunately for us we weren't still in our pyjamas, unlike Eva!

In the afternoon Flo and Eva took us out for a drive to a few places nearby, including a cool monastery and the extremely touristy little town of Rudesheim. Shanon absolutely loves Europe and took a truckload of pictures, especially at the monastery! Afterwards we had a BBQ with some of their friends in a park next to the Rhine, and then unfortunately it was time for us to leave.

We drove a couple of hours to Nuremberg and then tried to make our way to our hotel. It was all a mess of confusing one-way streets and even though we spotted our hotel after a while it took us ages to actually get to it. We ended up going around the city's ring road a few times. Someone in particular (not me!) was very, very grumpy by the time we finally made it! It was pretty much dark by that time, but we set out for a walk and to find some dinner. The first street we ended up going down turned out to be a red-light district of sorts. But after quickly turning around we found the pedestrian centre of the city to be quite nice to wander around in.

This morning saw us getting up at 5:30am(!) in order to drive to Munich airport. After managing to find our way off the dreaded ring road it was a smooth trip. And now.....

We are in Poland!!! In Krakow, to be exact. We're staying at an awesome place - a very cool 3 bedroom apartment called the Greg-Tom Hostel 2. I haven't met the people staying in the other rooms yet though, but hopefully they're cool. Our room is massive and the apartment has a washing machine - a HUGE luxury for us at the moment. It is just above a 'massage parlour' though - the guy checking us in told us he doesn't recommend it. Hee hee!

Krakow has been 'discovered' so there are plenty of tourists, and touristy things about. But it's still a nice place with a nice atmosphere, and we're glad we came. It's cheap here too.

And in other news, Ray & Kaoru (who I stayed with in San Diego) are now parents to a little boy. Very exciting!
