We´re in Europe

Stopping for lunch near Berchtesgaden

Our caravan in Innsbruck

In Salzburg

We made it to Europe safe and sound, and are now staying with our friends Florian & Eva in Mainz, Germany. And of course, so far we´re having a wonderful time.

On Monday night we flew overnight from Toronto to Munich and experienced the shortest night ever thanks to the time difference - just 3 hours from sunset until sunrise. That definitely confused my body. We drove straight to Salzburg, Austria from the airport and immediately went sightseeing. By the late afternoon I was dead on my feet and our little 5pm nap ended up lasting 5 hours. Very, very stupid as I lay wide awake all night! It´s taken me 3 days to get back to normal! Fortunately Shanon adjusted better, which is good considering he´s been doing all the driving.

On Wednesday morning we went up to the Festung Hohensalzburg (Salzburg Fortress). I was in Salzburg once before and after seeing my pictures that was one of the places Shanon was most looking forward to visiting. He wasn´t disappointed! Then it was into the car and onto Innsbruck, with a quick detour to Berchtesgaden in Germany (famous for being Hitler´s holiday retreat). We rented a caravan right under the mountains in Innsbruck and it was gorgeous.

On Thursday we went to the Alpenzoo in Innsbruck, which is a zoo dedicated to animals from the alps. It was pretty cool, and the views from the zoo were pretty awesome. Innsbruck is surrounded by mountains, and it definitely picture-perfect. In the afternoon we drove through the alps to get to Fussen, just over the border in Germany. It was one of the most beautiful drives I´ve ever been on, and of course the sun was shining and the skies were blue. Good weather is following us around the world!
